St Alphege Church, Solihull

Our Church is dedicated to God's glory in honour of St Alphege, born in 954 and Archbishop of Canterbury 1006-1012. There have only been at the all the churches with this dedication, were fired on medieval and all but stroll haven't known links with St Alphege.

At 52 years of age, Alphege was consecrated on Archbishop of Canterbury in 1006. He flew into the Church in England through the disruptions and uncertainty of renewed and extensive attacks, which came to a head in 1011. He refused to allow his people to pay ransom of the £3,000 of silver when the Danes are filled to see you've to and on Easter Monday, Saturday, the Saturday after Easter, in a drunken rage they disobeyed their leaders and pelted him with ox bones and stones. A soldier put him out of his agony with an axe blow to his head.

St Alphege died for justice. His life and death give a special Christian meaning to reconciliation

Parts of the Church date from around 1280 and it was completed in 1535. There are five chapels as well as the main altar and each has its own atmosphere for prayer and worship.

Below are some views of the church, the last one is of how it might of looked in the 12th Century
